The study of biological invasion has since the 1950’s delivered a wealth of understanding of the drivers and impacts of invasion and the species involved. As a result, many successful interventions have been put in place to reduce the rate and impact of biological invasions. Two key areas of opportunity to improve the efficacy of invasion policy and management now include better and more targeted measurement of the dynamics of invasive species, as well as integrated information management and delivery.

I will discuss what makes the measurement of invasive species different to native species, the process of translating the science of biological invasion into policy, the development of indicators of biological invasion, and the scientific inputs needed to better track, sustainably manage and understand the long-term consequences of this key threat to biodiversity.

Snacks and drinks provided.
