Science magazine recently highlighted the initial phase of ICARUS (International Cooperation for Animal Research Using Space), a flagship project of the MPYC. The article focused on both the program’s early success as well as the unfortunate impacts of the war in Ukraine on the project. The ICARUS project promises to dramatically expand the capacity for scientists to follow the movements of animals across the globe.

In a recent publication in Trends in Ecology and Evolution MPYC co-director Dr. Walter Jetz highlighted the exciting early successes of the ICARUS system and outlined opportunities to expand the program. Simultaneously, MPYC researchers unveiled a new website, animallives.org, which integrates animal movement data with other environmental data streams and allows users to explore the lives of individual animals.
